Bachelors of Arts Degree

KEY Success Markers in the Psychology Curriculum for the BA Degree
(The following courses MUST be taken in the order listed)

Intermediate Algebra (MTH1260)->Statistics (STT1600)->Research Methods I (PSY3010)->Research Methods II (PSY3020)->PSY Capstones (PSY4100-PSY4990)

-Each course represents 1 semester, thus it will take at least 5 semesters (2.5 years) to complete the success markers. Two capstones can be taken together.

Additional Requirements for the BA Degree

Complete 18 credits outside of the colleges of Science and Mathematics (CoSM), Engineering (EGR), and Computer Science (CS), and beyond what is required for the WSU Core Requirements. To fulfill these hours, student may want to consider pursuing a minor.

Additional Notes:

  1. Math Placement Test Scores < 3 require the completion of Developmental Math Course (DEV 0950). Students should consult their academic advisors.
  2. MPT scores >=4 will exempt students from Intermediate Algebra (MTH 1260), but at least 4 additional General Elective credits will be needed.
  3. WSU Core courses should NOT be confused with PSY Core courses.

-Students must also complete MTH 1280 (College Algebra), which has as a prerequisite MTH 1260 (Intermediate Algebra), or a MPT score of 4. MTH 1280 is a prerequisite for CS 1160 (Java Programming Language). As indicated elsewhere, an MPT score >=5 will exempt students from having to take MTH 1280.

Electives: In order to meet the total number of credit hours needed to graduate (120 semester credits), many students will need additional “General Elective” credits. These credits can come from ANY course (e.g., psychology, outside of psychology, in the College of Science and Math, Liberal Arts, Business, etc.). Using the 4-year plan, this equals 14 credits (or 5 courses) for a BA and 21 credits ( or 7 courses) for a BS. With these credits to complete a BS student may want to consider pursuing a minor.
