Bio
Gary N. Burns earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from West Virginia University and a doctorate from Central Michigan University. He is an active member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and also a member of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Society, and the Society of Personality and Social Psychology. Dr. Burns joined the Wright State University Psychology Department in 2008.
Research Interests
His current research focuses on assessing the impact of individual differences in behavior and job performance and on methods of measuring and predicting such differences. Current research projects focus on personality measurement, social-cognitive determinants of behavior, and applicant distortion. Applied projects focus on refinement and development of performance management systems and the fairness of selection systems.
Dr. Burns lab is the Workplace Personality Project (WPP). This laboratory is part of an international project spanning 4 countries (USA, Canada, Germany, Belgium). The purpose of the WPP is to explore the diverse roles of personality in the workplace and to better inform practitioners about how to take personality into account.
