Where should I save my files? There are four places you can save file:
This is a one place to keep your files. There are two problems with this form a data storage:
This form of storage is only recommended if you have to transport files to a computer outside of the WSU network or that doesn't have access to email. The biggest problem with the C: drive is that it is not backed up; if your hard drive crashes, all of your data will be lost. Software can be replaced but data cannot. Also, the C: drive is not secure. Anyone can turn your computer on and access your C: drive without logging onto the network. This is your private space on the network. It is backed up every night and is the best place to put confidential material that shouldn't be seen by the rest of the department. No one can access this space without your permission. This is your shared space on the network. Shared doesn't mean with the university at large; you share it only with other members of your department. K: is also backed up every night, but since it is shared with the rest of your department, this is not a good place to put confidential material.
