Why won't my printer print?

There could be several reasons why your printer isn't printing:

  1. Make sure there is paper in the printer

  2. Also, make sure there isn't too much paper in the paper tray; too much will jam the printer

  3. If you are using a laser printer with a paper tray, check to insure the paper is under the metal tabs located on the guides of the tray (see figure below)

  4. Make sure the toner or inkjet cartridge still has toner or ink in it; if you have a color inkjet printer with two cartridges, make sure both cartridges still have ink in them

  5. Check your program to make sure the printer you want is the one selected.

    • Go to FILE

    • PRINT

    • At the top of the PRINT window, the name of the printer that is currently selected will appear

    • If it is not the one you want, click the arrow on the right of the window and a list of the printers you are able to use will appear

    • Choose the one you want to print to

    • If the printer you want to print to isn't on the drop down list, you will have to call the CaTS Help Desk at ext. 4827 to have the printer installed on your computer.

  6. If none of these things work, call the CaTS Help Desk at ext. 4827.
