What do I do when my mouse and keyboard won't work?

When both your keyboard and mouse do not respond, it means your computer is locked up.  Unfortunately, if this is the case, you have to reboot your computer ( turn the computer off, wait ten seconds and turn it back on).  And yes, any unsaved work will be lost.  That is why that you need to save your files at least every fifteen minutes; this way you will never lose more than fifteen minutes of work.

To make sure your computer is locked up, toggle the "Num Lock" key on and off; if the light indicating that the number lock is on goes on and off, the computer isn't locked up; the problem is that your computer is taking longer than usual to process something.  If it stays on or off (depending on it's position when you start), the computer is locked up.

If after you have restarted your computer, it locks up again almost immediately or if it locks up more than once a week, you will have to call the CaTS Help Desk at ext. 4827.
