The Department of Art and Art History continues to offer a summer studio program for students in Italy. Students live and work in Cortona, a beautiful and ancient hill town, where they paint and draw directly from the landscape. Field trips to Florence, Rome and other important artistic sites round out the program. A generous gift has allowed the Art Galleries to be renamed the Robert and Elaine Stein Art Galleries. A new logo has been developed and the space has been updated. The permanent collection of the Stein Galleries has been enhanced by the receipt of 155 original Andy Warhol photographs, a donation from the Andy Warhol Foundation.
The Art Department has successfully structured both a Graphic Design Certificate Program, and an Interior Design Concentration Program with Sinclair Community College. In addition, the department has created internship opportunities with the Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Visual Arts Center, the Ebonia Gallery, the K-12 Gallery for Young People and the Cannery Art and Design Studio.
The Art Department continues to offer the Fine Arts Academy, a free Saturday morning art class for high school students. The program allows students to experience college level instruction, build a portfolio, and meet other area students interested in art.
