Language and Research Methods Requirement

Beginning with the Fall of 1993 all students entering Wright State seeking a B.A. degree from the College of Liberal Arts must complete both a Language and a Research Methods Requirement.

LANGUAGE:

Students must demonstrate proficiency at the 202 level in a foreign language either

• by satisfactorily completing course work or
• by examination.

Students who graduated from high school in 1986 or before (prior to the college preparatory curriculum policy requiring two units of foreign language), must demonstrate proficiency at the 103 level in a foreign language, either by satisfactorily completing course work or by examination.

For proficiency exams in French, German, Spanish, or Russian, consult the Department of Modern Languages. For proficiency exams in Greek or Latin, consult the Department of Classics. Other languages are acceptable, subject to approval by the Liberal Arts Advising Office.

Students who are continuing a language that they began studying elsewhere need to be placed at the appropriate level. For placement in French, German, Spanish, and Russian, contact the Department of Modern Languages. For placement in Greek and Latin, contact the Department of Classics.

RESEARCH METHODS:

Students must demonstrate proficiency in research methods by completing three courses: one in computer science, one in statistics or quantitative methodology, and one in philosophy. Course choices are listed below:

• Computer Science: CS 205, 206, 141, MIS 100, MUS 465
• Statistics/Quantitative Methods: COM 449, MUS 414, MS 204, PLS 210, SW 291, SOC 300, STT 160, STT 264, URS 410
• Philosophy: PHL 215, 223, 323, 471, 472
