José de Arimatéia da Cruz came to us from Brazil to study Political Science and Philosophy. After earning his B. A. in Philosophy in 1991 from Wright State University, he went on to study Political Science at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, earning a Ph.D. He is currently associate professor of political science/comparative politics at Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, Georgia. He does research and teaches in the areas of international politics, human rights, and economic and moral issues, focusing on Latin America and Africa. He has published five books and numerous articles and has traveled widely in Africa and Latin America.
José is currently the chairperson of the Americas Council, an organization that provides a venue in which faculty from the University System of Georgia can engage and share their interest and expertise regarding Latin America and Canada.
He was independently nominated for this award by both the departments of Philosophy and Political Science.
