After receiving his degrees at WSU, Brian pursued doctoral studies in Asian Religion in the University of Iowa and eventually earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University . Brain has taught Asian Religion at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is now associate professor of Religion at the University of Illinois , Urbana-Champaign. Brian specializes in medieval Japanese religion.
