PART 4: USEFUL INFORMATION, 4.7

4.7 Electives

All B.A. degree programs in the College allow students to select some electives. A number of these electives must be at the 300/400 level to meet the 60 hours required at the upper level. Occasionally, one of your advisees will be seeking suggestions for these electives, and you may want to explore possible courses for the student to consider. If a student has about 30 hours of electives, there is a strong possibility that he or she could add a minor. Other colleges have minors in psychology, mathematics, business, economics, management, and marketing. Liberal Arts has minors in the following fields:

African and African American Studies French Religion

Anthropology

Geography

Sociology

Art History German Spanish
Classical Humanities

History

TESOL
Communication Music Urban Affairs
Criminal Justice Philosophy Women’s Studies
English Political Science

In addition, various departments in the college offer certificates in such areas as Technical and Professional Writing; Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL); Cartography, Photogrammetry, and Remote Sensing; Gerontology; American Humanics Nonprofit; Museum Studies; Archive Administration and Records Management; Comparative Development; and Women’s Studies.

Infrequently, a student may want to double major in two different departments. This can be quite complex, and these students should be referred to the L.A. Advising Office to see how this will affect the total credit hours that will be required for graduation.

The forms to add a minor or a second major are available in the L.A. Advising Office.
