3.2 - 3.4: High School Deficiencies, GE, Major Requirements

3.2 High School Deficiencies

If a student is found to have a deficiency in foreign language, social studies, fine arts, or mathematics from high school, it will appear in this section. Only the identified deficiency (or deficiencies) will appear. This section will not appear at all on records for students without any deficiencies. Notice the “NO” indication at the left margin for deficiencies that have not been removed. Also, notice the instructions included for students on what needs to be done to remove the deficiency. In this example, the student has completed the necessary work to remove the deficiency in mathematics. When students have completed the requirement, an “OK” is indicated in place of the “NO,” any instructions are dropped, and only a list of the course or courses completed to remove the deficiency remains.

3.3 General Education

This section is divided into several sections to reflect the General Education Area requirements. As with the previous sections, it will be important to watch for “OK” indications to show when an entire area has been completed. For continuing students (as in the above example), there is also the hour count for Areas II, III, and IV at the beginning of the section (they must reach a total of 32 hours in these areas). Transfer Student records will include a count of the total hours in General Education at the beginning of the section (to show when they meet the minimum 54 hours). New Student records (those entering Fall 2003 or thereafter) will not have a count because completing the requirements will result in the required total of 56 credit hours.

Within each Area, individual sub-requirements will be marked with a + sign to show completion, a – sign to show that the sub-requirement is incomplete, or an IP mark to indicate that the student is in progress for completing the sub-requirement.

3.3.1 Writing Across the Curriculum in General Education

This section covers the Writing Across the Curriculum requirements for General Education. Any reduction in the requirement for Transfer or Returning students will be indicated here.

3.4 Major Requirements

Similar to the sections for General Education requirements, any requirements within a given major will be divided into separate areas (i.e. core requirements, specialization tracks within the major, related requirements, etc.). The same marks (OK, NO, +, --, IP) will be used for requirements and sub-requirements.
