WOMEN'S STUDIES PROGRAM UPDATE

 

Women's Studies On-Line -

The Women's Studies Program has set up a listserve which you maysubscribe to for information exchanges and ideas regarding the wide arrayof issues surrounding Women's Studies. The address is "Listserv@mercury.wright.edu".To subscribe, type in "wsu-womenstudies", and from that pointforward you will be on the Women's Studies mailing list.

A newsgroup has also been started for the Women's Studies Program.Join in the on-line discussion, or just drop in to discover what your peershave to say. The address is "wright.gender_issues.discussion".

The Program now has a homepage on the WWWeb: <http://hypatia.wright.edu/wms/wmsprgms.htm>.

 

Lecture Series Continues -

The first Women's Studies Lecture Series, held in March, with guest speakerDr. Julianne Malveaux, was a success. The series will pick up again FallQuarter, with possible guest speakers Midge Wilson and Kathy Russell, co-authorsof the book Divided Sisters: Bridging the Gap Between Black Women andWhite Women. Check with the Women's Center before the end of SpringQuarter for more details.

 

Scholarship Fundraiser -

The Women's Studies Program recently held an International Women's DayLuncheon to raise funds for their program. A total of $425 was raised atthis one event, and will go toward graduate and undergraduate awards andstudies. One of these awards includes graduate and undergraduate membershipinto the NWSA--National Women's Studies Association. Check with Dr. SissonRunyan for more information concerning these awards.

 

National Women's Studies Association--NWSA--Conference -

The NWSA is holding their national conference June 18-22, 1997 in St.Louis at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. The theme is "WomenGenerating Creativity and Change." This conference is rather unusualdue to the possibilities for the development of panels. There is usuallymore opportunity for panel development at regional conferences, but in thiscase not only are panels possible, but strongly encouraged.

Women's Awareness Month -

Sinclair Community College is holding a series of events in April forwomen's awareness month. Dr. Anne Sisson Runyan was one of the guest lecturersinvited to talk on April 23. Her topic was Global Gender Issues.
