From the Director

Garrison Keillor notwithstanding, it has not been a quiet year yearin the Master of Humanities Program at Wright State. One very noticeablechange is the growth in the program. Forty-five new students have beenadmitted in the past year; we currently have 61 students active in the program. Nine students graduated this past year, and like the numbers for new admissionsand total students, this is a record number of graduates for a single year. Reflecting this growth is the first time offering this fall of two sectionsof HUM 711.

Another change of note is that the Program has a new Graduate Assistant, Kathryn Walter, a second-year student. Kathryn (who, among other duties, edits this newsletter) may be reached at 873-2740 or by e-mail at s001khw@paladin.wright.edu.

During the past year the M. Hum. Program became the first(and remains the only) graduate program at WSU with its own Web page, URL:<hypatia.wright.edu>. As more students in the program gain accessto the Web, I suspect that this newsletter will become primarily an electronicWeb document.

One of my concerns as director has been to make the progressive stepsthrough the program as clear as possible. In this regard we are now askingall students to complete a preliminary Program of Study Form (availablein the Program Office, 400 Millett) no later than after completing 8 credithours of course work. Also available (in the office and on the Web page)is a document entitled "Master of Humanities Program Prospectus Guidelines". One sentence from those guidelines is of particular note; it says, "Thepreparation of a prospectus is a time-consuming task. One should beginworking on the prospectus two full quarters before beginning work on theProject."

I look forward to seeing each of you some time soon.

Charles Taylor
