And here is what we do . . .
Every year the seminar culminates in the week-long National Model United Nations Conference, held in New York City. Universities are assigned a country to represent several months before the National Conference each spring. Students develop research techniques and master the skills of public speaking, negotiation, and technical writing that are essential to diplomacy. Research begins during the winter break. To prepare for the conference, we schedule simulations with other schools. These include a day-long practice session that has attracted eight other universities and the Dayton Model United Nations Conference with Sinclair Community College that attracts 15 to 20 universities and colleges.
Over
the last 28 years, Wright State student
delegates to the National Collegiate Model United
Nations Conference in New
York City have
enjoyed earning top awards – a winning streak unmatched
by any other university in the country. Each year
the conference has grown in size
and international participation. Last year, more
than 4000 students from 200+ colleges and universities
from nearly 20 countries around the world took part.
The Model U.N. experience has become a unique academic experience at Wright State. The seminar emphasizes public speaking, technical writing, researching, and self confidence, all of which are qualities essential for any future career.
