Damaris Elizabeth Serrano Guerra was born in David, Province of Chiriquí, Republic of Panama.
She holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Cultural Studies (2005) and a M.A. in Comparative Literature (1998), both by Michigan State University. She has a B.A. ‘Cum Laude’ in Humanities with Specialization in Spanish and also is a High School Professor with Specialization in Spanish, granted by the University of Panama (1990).
She infuses in her students the principle that Spanish is knowledge for living, not just a requirement.

ONGOING RESEARCH AND LONG TERM PROJECT:
Member of the Central American team working on the encyclopedia “Towards a History of the Central American Literatures.” Co-Author in the Volume 6, called “(Per)versiones de la modernidad. Literaturas, identidades y desplazamientos.” This volume examines / analizes the production / works of Central American literatures since the end of the Twentieth Century throughout beginning of XXI century. This Project is lead by the Centro de Investigaciones en Identidad y Cultura Latinoamericanas” (CIICLA), at the University of Costa Rica.
She is constantly travelling to Panama and Central America to do research, and to attend conferences.
