Professor Cipriano first became interested in foreign languages when she heard her father speaking Italian with friends and family. Frustrated that she could not understand him and jealous of his ability to speak a second language, she decided she wanted to learn Italian to “break the code”. Since, Italian was not offered at her high school, she chose Spanish because it was similar, and she has never regretted her decision. In 1984, Professor Cipriano was a foreign exchange student to Galicia, located in northwestern Spain, and the experience changed her life forever. She has enjoyed teaching at Kent State University, the University of Georgia, the University of Toledo and she joined the faculty at Wright State University in 2001 first as an adjunct and she is now a Lecturer of Spanish. She has also worked as an interpreter and translator and she still occasionally accepts freelance translation work. Professor Cipriano teaches first and second-year Spanish courses, Spanish Phonetics (SPN361) and Spanish Culture (ML303). Along with Dr. Nancy Broughton, Professor Cipriano co-directs the WSU Spanish Ambassador Program to Spain. She enjoys watching students’ amazement as they make contact with Spain’s rich history, culture, and language.
In her free time, Professor Cipriano enjoys music, movies, gardening, organizing, and walking.
