NOTE: NOT majors in French, German or Spanish - just the Modern Languages major will be affected by the following:

Beginning with the Fall of 2012, the Modern Languages major will no longer be offered. The Department will continue to offer majors in French, German, and Spanish, minors in French, German, Spanish, Chinese Studies, and Russian Studies, and a Certificate in Linguistics. Modern Languages majors who will not be graduating by Spring 2012 are advised to switch to those majors and minors. In case of doubt, please contact your advisor.

Programs

Welcome to the “Programs” page of our Modern Languages site. Here you will be able to find out about the languages that we teach, which ones you can major and minor in, which ones you can study for two years, and which you can study for three. You will find specific information on our majors and minors that you need to know: how many courses, what kinds of courses you have to take, as well as related requirements – where these exist.

We also provide information here on a new Certificate in linguistics; this program is taught mainly through the Department of English, but Modern Languages faculty contribute as well. If there is any information that you seek that you can’t find, do not hesitate to contact the department or faculty members in the language that interests you. The links below offer in-depth information. Happy surfing!
