First Place, WYSO Radio/Book Friends Poetry Contest, 1999. Fifty dollar prize; read a poem and was interviewed on the radio.
Honorable Mention in the Greater Canton Poetry Contest (Ohio Poetry Day), 1999.
Honorable Mention in the 1998 grant competition of the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District.

Winner in the Ohio “Poetry in the Park” contest, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1992. (This is a statewide contest in which poets submit a selection of ten poems for consideration. Thirty winners are chosen; each one gives a reading in Columbus, has a poem published in the annual anthology, and receives an honorarium.)
Harriet McFerren Memorial Award, presented by the Ohio Poetry Day Association, for the poem “Child’s Cabala,” published in its Best of 1988 anthology.
Fourth Prize in the national poetry contest of the American Poetry Association for the poem “Dream,” published in the American Poetry Anthology (Santa Cruz: American Poetry Association, 1985): 301.

Third Prize in the national poetry contest of The New Poets Review, for the poem “Cauldrons.” The contest is sponsored by Cowan College, and the poem appeared in the Cowan College Catalogue, 1983: 130.
