¡Hola! Me llamo María Begoña Clavería Cabezas: a pretty lengthy name! This is so very typical of Spanish names.
I was born in Segovia, a beautiful castellan city with a gorgeous Roman aqueduct. My family moved to Granada (the last Moorish city in Spain) when I was a teenager, where I went to High School. I finished High School in Madrid and went to the University in Madrid. I attended “Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.” In proper English: The School of Biological Sciences at Complutense University. Here I obtained my undergraduate degree, majoring in Zoology (1980-1985). The year I finished college I started my teaching career at a private school teaching physics, math and biology.
I married a scientist, which has allowed me to travel extensively. We have travelled around the world and have lived in England, the USA, Canada and Australia. In the USA we lived in Chapel Hill North Carolina before coming to Dayton. I took a few years off to rear my two daughters and then went back to school, teaching and taking classes. I received a Masters Degree in Education and Spanish at Wright State University, graduating in November, 2006. I have been teaching at Wright State since 2000, first as an adjunct, and since July 2006, as an Instructor. I am very lucky to have a career doing the thing I like the most, teaching, as well as being able to share my language and culture with students from all walks of life here at Wright State.
