Minor in Chinese Studies
This is an interdepartmental minor, housed in the College of Liberal Arts, designed to provide a course of study in the field of Chinese studies that combines upper-level skills in Chinese language (Mandarin) with focused study within some of the major subfields of Chinese studies, including Political Science, Religion and History.
Courses:
- 20 credits of Chinese language beyond CHI 103 (5 courses)
- + 12 elective credits of China-related coursework (3 courses)
- Total: 32 hours (8 courses)

Electives
Electives need to be 300 or 400-level, with at least 50% of the focus of the course connected to the study of China. Electives currently being taught:
- Ancient Chinese Art, Chinese Painting, Modern Chinese Art, or Art of Buddhism (ART 417)
- Chinese History (HST 465)
- Chinese Politics (PLS 467)
- Chinese Foreign Policy (PLS 485)
- Daoism or Confucianism (REL 340)
- Zen Buddhism or Chinese Religions (REL 390)
- Chinese Business Ethics (MGT 480)
- Human Rights in China and the Broader Region REL 4xx (offered Spring 2010)
Additional courses may be submitted for inclusion as part of a student’s course of study, provided that they meet the 50% threshold cited above. Study abroad coursework, including WSU Ambassador programs, may also be counted as part of the elective study.
Students wishing to be admitted to the Chinese Studies Minor must:
- Have been admitted to a major subject;
- Have completed their first three quarters at WRight State University (at least 36 credits), with a GPA of 2.5 or better;
- Have achieved a cumulative average of at least 3.0 in at least 8 hours of CHI courses
