WSU's Public History program attracts a wide variety of students.  Here's a closer look at a few of our new students...

Tiffany Knapp, BA in French and Theatre Studies from Wright State University
Age: 26
Fun Fact: I was born with the chicken pox.

What attracted you to public history?

I've always loved museums and the way they can make history come to life. I want to help make history enjoyable to others.

Why did you choose Wright State?

It is affordable, and a public history degree will help me get the job I want.

What do you hope to do with your career after graduation?

I would love to get a job as a curator at a museum.

What do you think of your Wright State experience so far?

I think it has really broadened my perspective of the public history field. The professors have been really helpful. I just wish more museum-centered classes were offered.

Melissa Dalton, BA in Anthropology and Certificate in Environmental Studies from Ohio University

Age: 27

Fun fact: When I was 16, I spent 3 weeks of my summer roaming the United States in a RV with family.  We traveled through 24 states that summer.

What attracted you to public history?

I've known since I was in middle school that I wanted to work in a museum as a curator.  Public History seemed to be the natural career choice.

Why did you choose Wright State?

I know someone who graduated from the program a few years back and she recommended I check it out.  I was going to go back for a masters in Anthropology, but this program is better suited to prepare me for my future career.

What do you hope to do with your career after graduation?

I would love to be a curator of collections at a museum.   Ideally, I'd like to work somewhere I could tie in my anthropology background; maybe a natural history museum.

What do you think of your Wright State experience so far?

I just started the program this year, but so far, it's been great.  I've met a wide range of people and have already made friendships I think will last a lifetime.  The faculty and staff are very personable and willing to help or advise with any problems or questions.

Jeremy Feador, BA in History and Political Science from Baldwin-Wallace College

Age: 22

Fun fact: I "dig" cemetery research.  I also wrestled 4 yrs in college.

What attracted you to public history?

I received a grant from the Ohio Humanities Council to do Cemetery Research and an exhibit, so I did it and it was fun.

Why did you choose Wright State?

It has a good reputation and placement of its students.  I was given the opportunity to work in the Archives.

What do you hope to do with your degree after graduation?

Work in an archives or open my own Cemetery Preservation Business.

What do you think of your Wright State experience so far?

It's a jolly good time.  I enjoy the staff and professors and the ability to work with such a wonderful collection (i.e., Wright Brothers).

Elizabeth Morgan, BA in American Studies and History from Miami University

Age: 23

Fun fact: I love contradancing!

What attracted you to public history?

I have always loved museums, especially if they have historic clothing exhibits.  Maybe that is because I love sharing what I know, and want others to get as excited about history as I am.

Why did you choose Wright State?

It was highly recommended by a few of my professors, it was close to home, and it did not require taking the GRE.

What do you hope to do with your degree after graduation?

Hopefully, I shall find a job as a curator at a museum.

What do you think of your Wright State experience so far?

I love having classes where everyone wants to attend and participate.  The professors and students are truly passionate about public history.

Mel Glover, BA in History from University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Age: 44

Fun fact: I can tell you first hand, that you don't want to stand downwind from a penguin rookery.

What attracted you to public history?

I've always liked the idea of being able to share the joy I find in history with others.

Why did you choose Wright State?

The Public History Department

What do you hope to do with your career after graduation?

Work as an Air Force Historian

What do you think of your Wright State experience so far?

I enjoy the department but I've been less than overwhelmed by the level of service from the university staff and admin.
