Fall 2009 Public History Welcome Reception!

On September 25, 2009, the Public History program held a Welcome Reception for all new and returning students and faculty. Students who completed projects or internships over the summer were asked to highlight their work by participating in a poster session. This event was not only a way for new students to meet faculty and returning students, but also an opportunity to see what others have done for projects and internships. We had a wonderful turnout and thank everyone for attending! We also would like to thank the following for sponsoring the event: WSU SAA Student Chapter, Dawne Dewey, and Bob Smith.

Students Attend the 2009 Statehood Day
On March 3, 2009, five Wright State Public History students accompanied Dawne in attending the 4th Annual Statehood Day at the Ohio Statehouse. Statehood Day is an event where history advocates meet with state legislators to express the need for support in establishing and funding initiatives that promote the history of Ohio. For the five students who attended, it was a great experience. The chance to meet others in the field, create networks, meet legislators, and promote Ohio's history all in one massive event was incredible. Public historians are entrusted with preserving our collective history and participation in such events is a great way to ensure our history will be accessible to future generations. Stay tuned for information regarding next year's event!
