Financial Assistance

The Department of History awards a limited number of Graduate Tuition Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships to qualified students. Tuition Scholarships remit tuition fees, while Assistantships remit tuition and pay a stipend, currently in the range of $8000 annually. Most Graduate Assistants are assigned to faculty members and assist them in class preparation and grading. Assistants in Public History are often assigned to the university archives. In addition, the Public History track has a number of temporary and work-study positions off-campus.

Graduate Tuition Scholarships and Assistantships are highly competitive. Most Assistantships begin in the fall quarter, and can be renewed through the second year of studies. The deadline for consideration for a fall quarter Assistantship is April 15.

Applications are required for consideration (you are not expected to submit separate recommendation letters in support of the Graduate Assistantship application—we’ll use the same support letters that come with your application for admission). Click to download the following (.pdf format)
