A Note on Internet Term Paper Sites

Among the Internet’s many resources are several sites that offer, for free or for a fee, student term papers and research papers. Occasionally, students are tempted by those sites. You should be aware of several aspects of downloading and using all or part of those papers:

1. Using papers from the Internet is as fraudulent as using papers written by your roommate, your best friend, or your mother. The penalties are the same.

2. The assignments most instructors of ENG 101 and 102 give are not generic, standard topics. Finding papers on the Internet that meet the requirements of your assignments is unlikely--so you may as well write them yourself.

3. Writing teachers are trained as careful readers. It’s their job. As a result, they can usually tell if the writing you turn in is suddenly different from the writing you’ve submitted and revised during the quarter.

4. The English Department subscribes to software designed to compare students’ writing to writing found on the Web, including term paper sites.

In other words, if you’re tempted to visit Schoolsucks.com or The Free Essay Network or the others, please reconsider: it’s wrong, and it’s unlikely to work in your favor.
