Learning
Objectives: Across the Curriculum Goals
The Writing Across the
Curriculum (WAC) Program helps you further develop the skills learned in ENG
101 and ENG 102 by incorporating writing into the work of other courses. The
program’s goals are:
-
To demonstrate the ways in which writing
is part of all disciplines, essential to the learning and conveying of
knowledge in all fields.
-
To encourage you to use writing as a
learning tool to explore and structure ideas, to articulate thoughts and
questions, and to discover what you know and do not know -- to use
writing as a tool of discovery, self-discipline, and thought.
-
To improve your writing proficiency–your
ability to develop ideas and transmit information for an appropriate
audience in an organized, coherent fashion while writing with
appropriate style and correct grammar, usage, punctuation, and spelling.
WAC in General Education
The General Education portion
of WAC consists of ENG 101, ENG 102, and four Writing Intensive courses. You
may choose one class from each of the following categories:

SOC 200
-
One of the following Great Books Courses:
ENG 204, PHL 204, or REL 204
-
One of the following science courses: BIO
105, CHM 107, GL 115, or PHY 117
WAC Within Your
Major
Writing Across the Curriculum
requires that you take two Writing Intensive (WI) courses within your major
field. Successful completion of ENG 101 and ENG 102 are prerequisites for
all WI courses within your major.
