A Reading List for Children

These books were selected for literary and artistic merit, for positive contributions to the literary background of children ages 4 through 12, for examples of the work of significant authors and illustrators, and for value as memorable and enjoyable family reading. Reading levels are arbitrarily noted as P (Primary) for readers aged 4 through 8 and I (Intermediate) for readers aged 9 through 12. Many books could be used at both levels. The three divisions of the children's list follow the pattern of the adult list.
