Certificate Program in Technical and Professional Writing

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

 

The Certificate in Technical Writing and Professional Writing is available to students who successfully complete 20 hours in approved writing courses.

Prerequisites

You must complete complete the following courses before admission is granted:

  • English 101 and 102 or the equivalent
  • English 330/530: Business Writing
  • Transfer Courses: Only two transfer courses may be accepted.

 

Program Requirements

Once admitted, you are required to complete 5 courses (20 hours) of the following approved writing courses:

Basics Skills Specialized Topics
ENG 333/533:
Fundamentals of Technical Writing







4 Hours
ENG 400/600:
Topics in Computers and Professional Writing







4 Hours
One of the following:

ENG 405/605:
Topics in Technical and Professional Writing

ENG 404/604:
Short Topics in Technical and Professional Writing

4 Hours
ENG 402/602:
Professional Editing



4 Hours
Electives



4 Hours; no more than 6 hours
 

Grades:

  • Only grades of A, B, or P are acceptable.
  • The average GPA in the letter-graded courses must be at least 3.25.

  • The certificate may be earned at the undergraduate (300-400 courses) or graduate   (500-700 courses) level.
