Wright State University | College of liberal Arts | Classics MAKE A GIFT

Welcome to the Department of Classics

Classics is the study of the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. Both cultures have had a profound influence on life in the western world, especially in areas like language and literature, art and architecture, politics and religion, and science and philosophy. The Classics department at Wright State offers classes in most of these areas. We also offer a minor and three different majors in the subject. Two--the Latin and the Greek major--focus primarily on the study of the ancient languages and literatures. The third--Classical Humanities--allows students to take a wider range of courses in the field. Students in classics and humanities programs may also be interested in the Master of Humanities program at Wright State.

We are committed to high-quality teaching of undergraduates. We provide both specialized training for those who wish to enter graduate school in preparation for a career in scholarship or high school teaching, and a broad liberal education for those with more general interests. If you would like to learn more about our courses, our majors, or our minor, please feel free to contact the Chair, Professor Ava Chamberlain, or any of the other faculty members.
