Caroline Hillard

Assistant Professor of Art History

Caroline Hillard joins the Art History faculty in 2011 after a year as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses on conceptions of antiquity and ancient art in Renaissance Italy, concentrating on the rediscovery of the ancient Etruscans. She has held grants from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Renaissance Society of America, and the Pittsburgh Foundation, while her dissertation, “An Alternate Antiquity: The Etruscans in Renaissance Florence and Rome,” was awarded Best Unpublished Manuscript by the Society for Italian Historical Studies and nominated for the Council of Graduate Studies Distinguished Dissertation Award. She has also published and presented papers on the intersections between Renaissance art and anatomy. Dr. Hillard offers courses in Renaissance and Baroque art history.
