Wright State’s Raj Soin College of Business Expands Weekend MBA Offering - Cincy Magazine May/June 2009

Todd Dewitt PH.D.Wright State began offering its innovative weekend MBA program this fall in Mason, Ohio at Sinclair Community College’s Courseview Campus Center.  According to Todd Dewett, Associate Professor of Management demand has been overwhelming for the weekend cohort program which was launched in 2006 at the Mound Advanced Technology Center in Miamisburg.

“Our MBA focuses on excellence, value and convenience.  That combination has proven to be highly attractive to professionals who want to advance their career and leadership capabilities while balancing work, travel and family commitments,” said Dewett.

“The same outstanding faculty teaches our part-time evening and full-time MBA programs on our Main Campus just off I-675.   An additional benefit of the weekend cohort program is completing the entire program with the same peers. You learn alongside students from a wide variety of sectors and professional backgrounds creating an exceptional professional network which you will use for the rest of your career,” according to Dewett.

Brent Ginn, student in the second weekend cohort and research scientist.  “As a PhD scientist in R&D, my MBA has given me a business perspective that many scientists do not have or take years to develop from experience. And I’ve already been promoted twice in my career at P&G, Folgers and now Smuckers.  I chose Wright State’s program because it focused on technology and innovation and is offered every other weekend, which fit well with my schedule.”  Ginn’s most useful course thus far in the program is “Leading Teams and Organizations” which according to Ginn strengthened his leadership capabilities and made him more effective in managing diverse teams.

Dewett frequently teaches this leadership course in Wright State’s MBA program along with other courses which emphasize creativity, innovation, organizational change and business strategy.  While Dewett agrees that these are challenging times for professionals in almost any sector of the economy, he believes that this is also an ideal time to rethink your career and map out your professional and personal development plans.  “We can’t control change, but we can anticipate it and make our own choices on how we react to the inevitability of change.  The multi-disciplinary background you gain in our MBA program and the supportive network of professionals and faculty members you get to know can be major factors in how you succeed or fail in the face of change and the very tough business and societal challenges that we all face.”

Wright State’s next weekend cohort will begin Fall Quarter 2009.  Students should apply by June 1.  Students interested the full-time option on Main Campus for Fall 2009 should apply by March 31.   Students interested in the part-time evening program can apply during any quarter.  Details about all three MBA options can be found on line at: www.wright.edu/business   Click on Graduate Students.
