And as I write this update, two of our MBA student teams placed in the Top 50 in Google’s 2008 Online Marketing Challenge – out of all entrants in North and South America. An additional two teams placed in the top 10% for the Americas. Overall, 1,600 student teams from 47 countries took part in the competition.
We are also extending our masters programs throughout southwest Ohio and the nation. This fall, our weekend MBA program is being offered for the first time in Mason, Ohio at Sinclair Community College’s Courseview Campus Center. Demand has been overwhelming for this innovative cohort MBA program which we launched in 2006 at the Mound Advanced Technology Center in Miamisburg.
We are also enrolling this summer for the sixth cohort of professionals in the Masters of Logistics and Supply Chain program and our second cohort in the Information Systems masters. These programs attract professionals throughout the region and greater Midwest by combining leading-edge online learning modules with five weekends in class. Students add immediate value to their businesses by completing a research project focused on profitability or productivity improvements for their sponsoring company or organization.
Through a variety of additional partnerships with the business community, our faculty continues to enhance the economic vitality of the region and enrich our students’ learning experience. For example, we have expanded our services to area businesses with a series of customized executive development programs for Speedway and Dayton Superior.
Two of our newest centers, the Center for Global Business Education and Research and the Institute for Defense Studies assist area business and government professionals with best practices in their respective sectors.
The Institute for Defense Studies will provide credit and non-credit programs in supply chain management in cooperation with the Defense Logistics Agency and the Air Force Material Command.
In addition to fostering research in international business through the publication the Journal of Asia-Pacific Business, The Center for Global Business Education and Research brings policy leaders such as Strobe Talbott, President of the Brookings Institute, to share ideas about the global business and political environment with students and college supporters.
Please also take a few moments to read about numerous faculty awards and achievements in the Faculty News section – including Maggie Houston’s appointment by Governor Strickland to the Accountancy Board for Ohio, Dr. Evan Osborne’s Fulbright Fellowship in Global Economics and Dr. Zdravka Todorva’s, international recognition for her dissertation on “Reconsidering Households in Economic Theory”.
Of course, these new programs and achievements would not be possible without our excellent faculty, the generous support of our alumni and business leaders throughout the region. Please join me in congratulating the Raj Soin College of Business 2008 Outstanding Alumnae, Christina Howard, vice president of entrepreneurial development for the Dayton Development Coalition. And please do let us know about your career success and recent accomplishments so we can include them in upcoming issues of eConnections.
Thanks to your support and involvement in the Raj Soin College of Business, we can continue to be a catalyst for progress, innovation and positive change in the business world.
Best regards,
