Student Employment Opportunities at Wright-Patt

The Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP) provides Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school.

SEEP is comprised of two components: the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP), and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), which is commonly referred to as the Cooperative Education Program.

Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP)

Job opportunities under this component offer you temporary employment. Employment can range from summer jobs to positions that can last for as long as you are a student. These employment opportunities need not necessarily be related to your academic field of study.

Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)

This component, which is commonly referred to as the Cooperative Education Program, offers you valuable work experience directly related to your academic field of study. It provides formal periods of work and study while you are attending school. It requires a commitment by you, your school, and the employing Federal agency. You may be eligible for permanent employment under this component after successfully completing your education and meeting work requirements.

Resource Corner

Great Jobs for… Book Series

I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite resources from our Career Resource Center (CRC):  The Great Jobs for … series.

The CRC currently is home to 26 books in the series covering majors in the Raj Soin College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Math and the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Titles specific to business majors are Great Jobs for Business MajorsGreat Jobs for Accounting Majors and Great Jobs for Economics Majors.

The Great Jobs for Business Majors book goes into great detail about 4 specific entry-level career paths for general business majors: Sales, Retail, Health Care and Non-Profits.  Additionally, a 5th career path is explored; Grad School/MBA.

The chapter about Sales is very informational and will help dispel many myths about the career field.  Not many business majors deliberately choose to start their career in sales.  This chapter will give you a new understanding and appreciation for the field, helping to open your mind to a path that traditionally sees numerous employment opportunities.

Please stop by during office hours to visit our CRC and explore this resource.

Skill Builder

$tart $mart

Did you know that over her working life a woman will earn $1 million less than a man simply because she is a woman?

Did you know that in 2010, women still make 77 cents for every dollar men make?

Did you know there is something you can do to change this?

$tart $mart is a program designed to teach women how to negotiate for fair and equal salaries.

Fall workshops will be held on Tuesday, September 28th and Thursday, October 21st. Students register through their account in The Wright Search.

Activate your profile or Log In to The Wright Search

In this workshop, women will learn:

  • Personal budgeting to determine minimum salary needs
  • Benchmarking realistic salaries and benefits
  • Negotiation skills and techniques to succeed in the salary negotiation process

Hear what one past participant had to say about the workshop:

"Negotiation is a skill set that is passed down generationally. Often times women don't have this mentorship or a comprehensive understanding of the importance of salary negotiation, which creates an immediate disadvantage in the work force. The Smart Start workshop taught me to be my own advocate and about the importance of equity. I know how to negotiate my worth. As a young woman, I am confident that the skills and techniques I gained the workshop will be valuable tools for a lifetime."
-Kat, WSU alumni and former $tart $mart participant

Private workshops for groups of 12 or more students can also be arranged. To learn more about $tart $mart, contact Stephanie Spencer atstephanie.spencer@wright.edu
