The Wright State University student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has been selected among the top 10 in the nation and earned a prestigious superior merit award designation.

Chuck Salvetti, manger of student programs for the society, said the recognition “demonstrates that the Wright State chapter has done an outstanding job providing opportunities for growth and development for your members.”

Megan Leasher, president; Kellie Gilroy, vice president; and Christie Spreng, secretary, are leaders of the 30-member WSU student chapter. Lisa Crawford, a lecturer in management at the Raj Soin College of Business, is advisor to the club.

Leasher said club activities that helped earn the national honor included increasing student membership, touring human resources departments of Dayton area companies, developing a human resources research project, helping area student chapters, volunteering for community service and placing interns in human resource positions with area companies and businesses. Wright State earned 3,180 out of a 3,300 possible points.

Other universities receiving the top 10 designation included North Carolina State University and California State University, Fresno.

Crawford said only 10 of 430 active chapters were selected for the top national designation. The Wright State club will be recognized formally for the honor at the SHRM national student conference in June at San Diego.

This is the third consecutive year the Wright State club has received a superior or higher rating in the national competition.
