WSU financial services majors Sally Renk, Joshua
Sodders, and Peter Young, garnered first-place awards in a financial
planning competition sponsored by American Express Financial
Advisors. Their project involved preparation of a comprehensive
financial plan from a complex client profile.
The nationwide competition involved almost 50 major universities,
including The Ohio State University, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech,
University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, and Kansas State
University.
“Unlike many other case competitions, students in this event
received no coaching from faculty or other financial professionals,”
explained William Wood, CFP®, coordinator of the financial services
program in the Raj Soin College of Business. “They had 30 days to
complete their analysis, all without the use of any financial
planning software packages,” he said.
