Wright State University students collecting donations for the homeless Wright State University’s Association of Native American Students, on behalf of The Other Place, a local homeless shelter, is seeking non-perishable food items, personal hygiene items, large book bags, duffel bags, clothing of all kinds, school supplies and bottled water. (10/31/2003) Wright State seeks summer instructors for Pre-College Programs Wright State University’s Office of Pre-College Programs is issuing a “Call for Proposals” for its 2004 summer enrichment programs. The program is seeking proposals and instructors for K-12 courses in math, science, art, theatre, computing, technology and foreign languages. (10/28/2003) President Goldenberg and Wright State honored with awards for human justice efforts Wright State President Kim Goldenberg and Wright State University were each honored this week with awards from the Dayton Region of the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ). (10/24/2003) Lillie Howard inducted into Consortium of Doctors Lillie Howard, Ph.D., vice president for curriculum and instruction and dean of the University College at Wright State University, was recently inducted into the Consortium of Doctors (COD), LTD, in San Francisco. The COD is a national professional organization that recognizes the achievements of African American women with Ph.D., J.D., M.D. and other earned doctorates. The group seeks to motivate talented African American women to succeed and assume leadership positions in their fields. (10/23/2003) Daily living problems facing Parkinson’s disease patients under study in WSU psychology research project The problems faced by seniors with Parkinson’s disease in coping with daily living are the subject of a research study by Jeffery Allen, Ph.D., an associate professor at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology. (10/21/2003) Vectren gift to benefit Wright State’s Urban Literacy Institute A partnership between Wright State University and Dayton Public Schools to improve reading literacy has received a boost with a $10,000 gift from the Vectren Foundation to Wright State’s Urban Literacy Institute. (10/17/2003) Recycling at Wright State University saves money, helps environment In recent years Wright State University has saved more than $50,000 through an extensive recycling program that is helping preserve the environment and saving natural resources. (10/15/2003) WSU scientist part of study seeking vaccines to combat potential bioterrorist attack A research scientist at Wright State University is involved in a $1 million federal grant to combat a terrorist attack involving biological weapons. Dawn Wooley, Ph.D., an associate professor in anatomy and physiology, is part of the Midwest Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research.
(10/14/2003) New Wright State program strengthens international students’ language skills International students now have a “bridge” to success in graduate school. Wright State University’s Learning English for Academic and Professional Purposes (LEAP) program has added a new bridge level that prepares international students for admission to a Wright State graduate program. Wright State will recognize completion of the bridge program in place of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Students in the bridge program work on the speaking, writing and study skills necessary for successful graduate study. (10/10/2003) New associate dean named at WSU Raj Soin College of Business Rosemary Ramsey, Ph.D., has been named associate dean for graduate programs, international and community relations at the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University. (10/07/2003) Terrorism & National Security topic for lecture at Wright State University The aftermath of September 11, 2001, is the topic for the first College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Lecture Series event at Wright State University this academic year.
