February 22, 2005 Wright State Friends of the Libraries lecture to discuss global economy 
“Made in America: What is ‘Buy American’ in a Global Economy?” is the topic of the next Friends of the Libraries Lecture sponsored by the Wright State University Friends of the Libraries and the Raj Soin College of Business. Fall Ainina, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Finance and Financial Services in the Raj Soin College of Business and winner of Wright State’s 2004 International Education Award, will speak on Thursday, March 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Ainina will discuss why “Made in China” is prevalent in our shopping, how Americans are impacted by global Free Trade Agreements and the evolution of international trade as more American products are made outside of our borders. He will give examples of what “Buy American” means overseas, from McDonald’s to fashion. Ainina’s research and scholarly publications include global equity markets, global reputational capital trends, unique applications to cross-cultural research and innovative approaches in international business education. He hails from Mauritania and served as his homeland’s ambassador to the United States from 1992 to 1994, leading policy formation on issues including trade, human rights and peacemaking. He is currently working on the development of Wright State’s new MTC Technologies Trading Center that will enhance the student investment management program. The Friends of the Libraries Lecture Series began in 2003 and spotlights WSU faculty and the affiliated libraries’ collections and services. Light refreshments will be served at the event.
