Wright State supports new community choral group
Do you enjoy singing? Want to get involved in a community choral group? If you answer yes to these questions, Wright State University has a deal for you.
Brenda Ellis, director of Wright State University’s Paul Laurence Dunbar Chorale and an associate professor of music, is recruiting members who enjoy singing for the Dayton African American Choral Society. “This is a community choir dedicated to preserving the heritage of African American choral music through the performance of concert spirituals, gospel songs, hymns, anthems and major works by African American composers,” she said.
Ellis said society members come from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds with various levels of musical experience. Members must be age 18 or older, and no audition is required. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at Wright State. Those interested who register by Nov. 11 will be able to perform with the group in their Christmas Cantata on Dec. 13.
