WSU Theatre presents the Tony Award-winning play Angels in America: Perestroika

Wright State University's Department of Theatre Arts presents the critically acclaimed Angels in America: Perestroika, winner of both the Tony Award for best play and the Drama Desk Award for outstanding play, in the Herbst Theatre, June 5–7.

“Only the Wright State Department of Theatre, Dance, and Motion Pictures could mount productions of Titanic and Angels in America in the same quarter for area theatre lovers,” says director Bruce Cromer. “These are two epic, challenging pieces that sweep audiences into the stories and characters, and serve to train the next generation of young theatre artists.”

Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, the first installment of Tony Kushner’s epic two-part drama, was staged at Wright State last June.

Perestroika tells the story of two couples desperately trying to preserve their relationships while the world comes crashing down around them. Kushner takes the audience on a whirlwind tour of the crises that plagued America in the late 1980s: race, sex, religion, politics, and the AIDS epidemic. Staged in the intimate Herbst Theatre the audience will be able to see firsthand the agonizing efforts of these people to come to terms with the impact of the quickly changing world they find themselves.

This production features the talents of seniors: Chris Feil (Prior), Robin Smith (Angel), Matthew Alan Troillett (Louis), and Andrea Young (Hannah), and juniors: Molly Andrews-Hinders (Harper), Shea Castle (Joe), Alex Goodman (Belize), and Matthew Rush (Roy Cohn). Angels in America: Perestroika is directed by Bruce Cromer, with lighting design by Greg Barrett, set design by Kelly Green, sound design by Amanda Hosking, costume designs by Matt Carney, and props by John Lavarnway.

Performances are June 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. and June 6–7 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available 90 minutes prior to the show. For theatre information call the Box Office at (937) 775-2500.
