Multicultural Halloween at Wright State features worldwide fall celebrations
Halloween in America means pumpkins, costumes, goblins, candy and trick or treat. But in other cultures, similar fall events are observed in different ways. The seventh annual Multicultural Halloween at Wright State University on Thursday, Oct. 26, will acquaint those who attend with examples of such fall events as the Asian Indian Diwali, the Chinese and Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival, Korean Chusok, Cambodian Pachum Pen, Japanese Bon Festival, Mexico’s “Day of the Dead” and a Native American Fall Harvest.
The 5:30–11 p.m. event will be held in the Student Union Apollo Room.
The celebration will include free ethnic foods from around the world, a costume contest for children and adults, cultural displays, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon sculpture and clowns. Music and dance will be performed from Scotland, France, the Caribbean, Japan, Tahiti, China, Africa, Lebanon and the United States.
“This event will feature great food and a huge variety of outstanding entertainment like the Red Panda Acrobats, Tahitian dancers and world famous Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band,” said Wright State student Mike George, chair of the event. “We encourage the Dayton community to attend and experience the excitement that this international diversity celebration represents.”
Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for the general public and $2 for children 12 and under. For more details, visit the Web site http://www.wright.edu/admin/ahna/mhc or phone (937) 775-2798.
