WSU business information systems program first in Ohio to earn accreditation from national engineering & technology board
The Bachelor of Science program in management information systems (MIS) at Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business has received national accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
The college becomes the first Ohio business school and one of a handful in the nation to receive accreditation from the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET for the information systems program. The Raj Soin College of Business is also the first in the region to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Berkwood Farmer, Ph.D., dean of the school, said, “We are excited to receive this accreditation that is a testimony to the excellence of our program, faculty and students in management information systems.” He said the accreditation will help MIS graduates when they enter the job market, make local, regional and global employers aware of the excellence of the MIS program at Wright State and assure the parents of students in the program that their investment in a college education at Wright State constitutes an excellent return on investment.
ABET is the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. The accreditation from volunteer professionals in industry, government, academe, and private practice focuses on the MIS curriculum, faculty, facilities and institutional support.
A key element in the accreditation process is a requirement that the programs continually improve their quality. “Our commitment to continual improvement is demonstrated through self-evaluation, measuring student success and receiving input from corporate and industry advisory boards,” Farmer said.
ABET is an internationally respected organization with some 1,500 volunteers that has provided leadership in higher education for more than 70 years.
The MIS program at Wright State prepares students for careers in systems analysis, business system design and information technology development. The program includes course work in information system design and development methodologies, database management systems, electronic business and data communications. The program also covers business fundamentals in accounting, finance, marketing, management and management science.
The Wright State University College of Engineering and Computer Science also has earned reaccreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET for all eight of its undergraduate degrees.
