Top national business leaders in diversity practices to share success stories at Wright State forum

A recipe for internal success in the business world involves developing a workplace culture where all employees are valued for their contribution. A key step in this process is to embrace diversity as a way to maintain high employee morale and reduce possible employment litigation.

Top officials with two firms that have gained nationwide recognition for their diversity practices will share the secrets of their success at the second annual Best Practices in Diversity Forum on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Wright State University’s Nutter Center Berry Room.

The 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. event is sponsored by the Department of Management at Wright State’s Raj Soin College of Business, the Institute for Business Integrity, Ohio Civil Rights Commission, Miami Valley Human Resource Association and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Program highlights include a presentation by Tim Solso, president and CEO of Cummins, Inc., of Columbus, Ind., the largest independent manufacturer of diesel engines in the world, and Bill Kent, vice president for human resources with PK USA of Shelbyville, Ind., a major automotive parts supplier.

Ann Wendt, Ph.D., a professor of management at Wright State and coordinator of the event, said, “Both Cummins and PK USA are recognized nationally by human resource professionals for their outstanding efforts at employee diversity, and Bill Kent has received recognition in this area from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.”

Wendt said for the program also includes a mock mediation on employment discrimination coordinated by Brad Adams, a regional alternative dispute resolution administrator with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.

The $35 registration fee includes lunch and parking. Three hours of recertification credit will be available to those with certification in human resources and related areas.

For more details on the event contact Wendt at (937) 775-2468. For registration information contact the Kettering Center for Continuing Education at (937) 775-1100.
