Developing advanced technology center focus of project involving WSU, Miamisburg Mound Community Improvement Corp.

The Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University and the Miamisburg Mound Community Improvement Corp. (MMCIC) today announced an agreement to spur development of the Mound Advanced Technology Center (MATC) in Miamisburg.

The agreement is designed to strengthen MATC’s position as a scientific, business and technology industrial park focusing on the commercialization and growth of enterprises involved in emerging energy, advanced manufacturing and material processing technologies and service industries.

Two initial programs that are part of the agreement involve expansion of existing internships for WSU business students at MATC and a faculty development program for WSU business faculty to pursue consulting assignments with MATC clients.

“We are delighted to have the expertise of Wright State University business faculty and students on board as a partner to help in the growth and development of our tenants,” said MMCIC President Mike Grauwelman.

Berkwood Farmer, Ph.D., dean of the Raj Soin College of Business, said, “Our collaboration with the Miamisburg Mound Community Improvement Corp. is a win-win for both the business community and the college. Our expanded relationship opens up exciting opportunities for research for our faculty and real-world learning for our students. The MATC clients benefit from the fresh insights of our students and expertise of our outstanding faculty.”

A joint work team of university business faculty and MMCIC representatives has been formed to develop cooperative projects in the coming months.

MMCIC is a private entity created by the City of Miamisburg to spearhead redevelopment of the former Department of Energy Mound facility as the MATC scientific, business and technology industrial park. The Raj Soin College of Business enrolls approximately 1,200 undergraduates and 450 graduate students and is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. A Bachelor of Science in Business degree is offered, along with three graduate degrees. Course work is available through six departments: accountancy, economics, finance and financial services, management, information systems and operations management, and marketing. Students earn top honors at national competitions annually.
