October 4, 2005 WSU to host concert, lecture of Southwestern folk music As part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, Wright State University will host a concert and lecture by Ronstadt, Ramirez and the Santa Cruz River Band. Michael Ronstadt and Ted Ramirez, principal writers and artists of Ronstadt, Ramirez and the Santa Cruz River Band, will present “Southwestern Folk Music and its Mexican/Hispanic Roots,” on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 12:20 p.m. in the Discovery Room, E163 Student Union. The band will perform a concert at 7 p.m. that evening in the Concert Hall of the Creative Arts Center.Ronstadt, Ramirez and the Santa Cruz River Band perform in English, Spanish and American Indian languages. Their music is filled with the history and mystical lore of the Great American Southwest. Their music is rooted in the traditional music styles of the United States and Mexico and presents an authentic look at American Indian, Spanish, Mexican and American Cowboy heritage and culture. Ronstadt and Ramirez’ sounds are complemented by the mandolin, guitar and banjo style of Gilbert Brown and the bass work of Arthur Miscione. During their lecture, Ronstadt and Ramirez will present on American Indian, Spanish, Mexican and American Cowboy heritage and culture. They will discuss how folk music has brought cultures together and how they bring the Southwest to life with traditional songs and stories. The lecture is free and open to the public. The concert is free to Wright State faculty, staff and students with university ID and $5 for the general public. Both events are sponsored by the Asian/Hispanic/Native American Center, the Department of Music, and the University Honors Learning Community for Culture, Identity and Film.
