New Dialogue Coming Soon

Based on your suggestions and input from a Dialogue survey conducted this past spring, we are working on a brand new format for Dialogue, scheduled to debut in January. The web team will be creating the new Dialogue site using the WordPress platform. If you have visited the new Regional Summit website, www.wright.edu/regionalsummit, you have already experienced the user-friendly features of WordPress.

Much like the Regional Summit site, the new Dialogue will offer photo galleries and videos. You will also be able to leave comments at the end of stories or ask questions. You will be able to submit your own faculty and staff notes online and give us your ideas for future stories. You’ll also be able to sign up for RSS feeds so you can be the first to know when Dialogue is updated.

Most importantly, we hope the new Dialogue truly becomes a dialogue for the Wright State community. To help get us started, we want your feedback on the design of the new site. Please take a minute to look at two proposed design templates. Tell us what you like and don’t like and vote for your favorite.

As always, we appreciate your input in making Dialogue a publication all faculty and staff members will want to read.

Dialogue survey results
In spring 2009, a survey on Dialogue was distributed by email to all faculty and staff. A total of 359 people responded to the survey. Thank you to each and every one of you who took the time to complete the survey and give us your input. Here is a brief summary of the survey results:

  • When asked how you receive university news, 91% selected the President’s weekly letter followed by Dialogue at 75%. Wright State’s homepage and Community magazine were information sources for more than half of those surveyed.

  • 85% read Dialogue when they receive it. More than half (59%) prefers to receive Dialogue online, while 24% would rather read it in print. Eighteen percent enjoy receiving both print and online versions of Dialogue.

  • Almost half (48%) prefer to receive Dialogue monthly while 38% would rather receive it quarterly. Eight percent want to receive it weekly.

  • The vast majority (88%) spends less than an hour reading Dialogue. Only 3% spend more than an hour reading Dialogue.

  • When we asked the question “What articles appeal to you when you read Dialogue?” 38% said they enjoy reading about staff and faculty recognition and news. The second-highest response was nothing in particular (22%) followed by general campus news (19%), featured articles (12%), and the President’s perspective (12%).

  • When asked what type of topics you are interested in reading more about in Dialogue, 71% expressed interest in campus events followed by the impact of state and national issues on education (70%), human interest stories (64%), featured departments (64%), what’s new in each college (62%), the President’s message (57%), promotions, new hires, and retirees (54%), and administrative challenges (53%).

  • Almost all of you (94%) enjoy photos in Dialogue. More than half (57%) prefer a combination of quick snapshots and featured stories.

  • When asked the open-ended question, “What do you like about Dialogue?” nearly half (48%) responded that the stories are informative and interesting to read. Twenty percent find the format easy to read and 15% like how Dialogue connects them to the campus.

  • The final question of the survey asked, “What suggestions do you have to share that would improve Dialogue?” More than 1/4 of you (26%) recommended eliminating the print version, and 15% would like to read more human interest stories about people at Wright State. Eighteen percent offered no suggestions for changes.
