Add Atomic Learning Tutorials to Your Course

Atomic Learning video tutorials can help students learn software applications from Microsoft, Apple, Adobe and more. Now, you can make custom lists of tutorials in Pilot and your students won’t need to log in twice to view them.

You can add these lists of tutorials as items in the Content area or as links just about anywhere in your course.

Add Atomic Learning Tutorials in the Content Area

Go to the Content area and, on the left navigation column, click the module where you want to add the tutorials.

From the “Activities” menu in that module, choose “External Learning Tools.”

From the “External Learning Tools” menu, choose “Atomic Learning.” Then click the blue “Insert” button.

This will create a Content topic called “Atomic Learning.” You may change the name of the link to something more meaningful, if you wish.

Click the link you just created, give it a moment, and soon you will see a form you can use to search for the applications you want. Or choose them from a list.

Once you choose the kind of training, check the box in front of each individual video tutorial you want your students to watch.

Once you have selected the videos you want, click the “Preview” button.

If the list looks OK, click “Submit” and you’re done.

The next time you or a student clicks the link you created in the Content area, you will see a list of links to the tutorials you chose. When someone clicks a tutorial link, they will be automatically logged into Atomic Learning and the tutorial will play.

Add Tutorials with Quicklinks

In addition to adding an item to the Content of your course, you can add Atomic Learning tutorials in the News tool, in Discussions, on content pages, in the descriptions for modules and topics…anywhere you can add a “Quicklink.” One advantage of using a Quicklink is that you can make the tutorials open in a new window and avoid the slightly-too-small frame that crowds things a bit in the Content area.

Start by placing your cursor where you want to add the link. Then click the “Quicklink” button on the editor’s toolbar. It looks like a chain link and an asterisk. You might have to first click an button that has three dots on it before you can see the Quicklink button.

When the “Insert a Quicklink” window opens, choose “External Learning Tools” under “What do you want to insert.” Then choose “Atomic Learning” under “Details” when that option appears. Choose to have it open in a “New Window.” Type a “Link Caption” which will be the words that become a link.

The image above shows options that will insert the words “Photoshop Tutorials” into the document, news item or description you are editing. Those words will be blue and underlined and will open a new window when you click them. When you click them the first time, you will see the form to choose your tutorials. The rest works like the instructions above for adding tutorials as Content items.
