Automobile Insurance – Basics
Grade Level: 9-12
Overview: Students look forward to owning a car and often want unrealistic or unaffordable cars. This lesson can be used with the one given after a basic car insurance topic has been discussed.
Time required: 50- 60 minutes
Materials: Access to a computer with Internet connection.
Objectives: Students will understand in more detail that car insurance is necessary and insurance coverage premiums are based not only on the driver's experience but also on the type of car being insured.
Assignment:
The student is graduating from high school and his/her parents are giving
them the down payment of ten-percent for a new or reasonably new car. The
student's parents want him/her to have reliable transportation while away at
college or able to get to and from work.
Visit car dealer sites and shop for an automobile. Here a few sites that can be
of help in shopping for an automobile.

Once a car has been found that the student would like to own the next step is to get an insurance quote for it. Here a few sites that can be of help in this portion of the assignment.

When the students has complete all of the needed research, then they are write a one-page report describing their car and insurance. Being sure to include all pertinent information.
Development: A discussion or presentation by each student is given on their findings to the rest of the class.
