The Campus Mainframe System
As of January 1, 2007, our mainframe is no longer in operation,
with its functions having been taken over by the University's
implementation of Banner. Our mainframe was an IBM Multiprise
3000 (MP3000), a CMOS processor that occupied just over 11 square
feet of floor space and used less power than a hairdryer.
The MP3000 provided far more computing power than the room-sized
machines of only a few years ago. In the past, the mainframe
supported WSU's administrative systems, as well as intensive
academic research work, and housed university student and financial
databases.
