Tips for setting up file sharing programs to make the network more efficient

Kazaa and/or Morpheus Settings

1. Go to Tools and select options.
2. Under the User tab uncheck launch automatically
3. Under the traffic tab

-         set simultaneous downloads to 1

-         set simultaneous uploads to 0

-         place a checkmark next to disable sharing of files with other members

4        Under the advanced tab

-         set maximum bandwidth in kilobits to be used for transferring files to 24

-         place a checkmark next to do not function as a super node

5.   Under the messages tab

-         place a checkmark next to ignore all incoming messages

Aimster Settings

1. Go to the toolbar and select settings
2. Under the Aimster tab:

-         Uncheck start Aimster when windows starts

-         Set the connection speed to 56kbps

-         Uncheck find Aimster buddies

-         Uncheck ping search results

-         Uncheck use advanced search with buddy features

4. Under the transfers tab

-         set maximum Aimster uploads to 0

-         set maximum Aimster downloads to 1

Imesh Settings

1. Go to the tool bar and select preferences-options
2. Under the General Tab

-         Uncheck launch on startup

3. Under the Downloads tab

-         Set maximum concurrent downloads to 1

5. Under the Uploads tab

-         Set maximum concurrent uploads to 0

6. Under the Share tab

-         uncheck allow other users to view all my shared files

7. Under the connection tab

-         set to 56k modem

8. Under the Contacts tab

-         Uncheck accept instant messages from other users

Napster Settings

1.        Go to File-preferences

2.        Under the personal tab

-         Set connection type to 56k

3.        Under the Transfer tab

-         Set inbound transfers to 1

-         Set outbound transfers to 0

4.        Under the Chat tab

      -     Disable all chat options
