Configuring Your Macintosh for Network Access
Does you computer meet Wright State's minimum requirements?
Click System
Requirements to find out what you need to connect on campus. You must have a 10.x, ideally 10.2 or better, version of the Mac Operating System software installed. Note: Mac OS 9.x is no longer supported.
- If you wish to access the Residence Network (ResNet) wirelessly in the residence halls or on campus, you must have a wireless card (Apple AirPort or similar) installed in your Mac. Then follow the instructions located on the Macintosh OS X Installation Guide. Otherwise, proceed to Step 2.
- Make sure an Ethernet cable (Category 5, commonly called a CAT-5 cable) is plugged in. One end in the network jack in your room and the other end in the Mac's Ethernet port.
- Open your System Preferences (Apple Menu > System Preferences).
- Select the Network icon.
- Click the drop-down list next to Show: and select Built-in Ethernet.
- Click the TCP/IP tab. Choose the following settings:
Configure: Using DHCP
DNS Servers: 130.108.1.20
Search Domains: wright.edu
- Click the Apply Now button.
- Restart the Mac. Launch a web browser (Safari, Netscape, Firefox). Note: Because it is unable to use the security certificates needed for firewall authentication, Internet Explorer for Mac OS X should not be used for firewall authentication. If you still wish to use Internet Explorer for web browsing, authenticate with a different browser first, then minimize and launch Internet Explorer.
- Go to http://access.wright.edu and click on the Authenticate for Network Access link. Enter your CAMPUS username and password (found on your computer account sheet). Then, on the next screen, choose Standard Sign-on. You have now identified yourself to the firewall, and can go on to other websites. Note: You must authenticate each time you start a new networking session, and before launching any applications that need network access (iChat, AIM, weather apps, etc.).
