Rules of the Road
It is important to follow the Acceptable
Use Policy and to use your network access in a courteous manner. If you
have questions or concerns about your network use or feel that others are
infringing on your rights, please contact the CaTS Help Desk by calling
775-4827, sending e-mail to helpdesk@wright.edu,
or visiting 025 Library Annex.
What Type of Computer Do I Need?
Wright State recommends the following computer types and configurations for
connection in the residence halls:
Intel Microsoft/Windows
Intel Pentium 650mHz processor
256mb RAM (512mb strongly recommended)
3com or Intel network card
10gb Hard Drive
CD-ROM
17" Display at 1024x768
Windows 2000 (XP Pro strongly recommended)
* The minimum hardware requirements are only for machines to be placed on the network. Your computer may meet the requirements to be placed on the network, but these requirements may not be fast enough for your operating system. Please check the minimum requirements set by Microsoft to determine if you have the proper operating system.
Note: CaTS only supports and guarantees the functionality of Intel and 3Com 3c209, 3c905, and 3c589 ethernet adapter cards.
Apple Macintosh
Power Macintosh G4 550 mHz
256mb RAM (512mb highly recommended)
10gb Hard Drive
CD-ROM
17" Display at 1024x768

Do I Need a Computer Account?
You'll need a CaTS CAMPUS account before you can use your network
connection to visit off-campus web sites (see Internet
authentication). You will also have access to personal and shared
disk space. Accounts can be picked up at the Help Desk in 025 Library Annex.
You'll need a photo ID.
Users must take full responsibility for upgrading to and using Windows 2000
on their Residence Network machines. CaTS does not currently install or
diagnose problems on Windows 2000 machines unless Windows 2000 is the original
operating system supplied by the manufacturer or vendor.
Wright State supports those with adaptive technology needs. When making
your appointment for installation, your Help Desk representative will discuss
with you any adaptive technology you have installed on your computer. You may
also wish to contact the Disability Services department at 775-5680 or visit
them in E186 Student Union.
Wright State recommends that you purchase surge
protection for your computer. This includes the traditional power strip
and surge protection for you network data line. Electrical storms may
send a surge through the network and electrical lines at the same time.
Without protection for you network card you may risk having your computer
seriously damaged after a storm. You can purchase a surge protector for
your electrical outlet at any retail store, but finding protection for
your network card is a little
harder. To purchase visit:
